The Stomatogastric Nervous System of Arenicola By MARY WHITEAR

چکیده
The stomatogastric system of Arenicola marina L. is in the form of a plexus of nerve-bundles connecting the supra-oesophageal ganglia and the circum-oesophageal commissures with a ring ganglion situated in the gut wall at the anterior limit of the oesophagus; the plexus continues down the length of the oesophagus. Numerous sense cells occur in the epithelium of the proboscis and oesophagus. The anatomy of the stomatogastric system is essentially the same in A. ecaudata Johnston and in A. claparedii Levinsen.

Immunocytochemical localization of multiple cholecystokinin-like peptides in the stomatogastric nervous system of the crab Cancer borealis.
Three anti-cholecystokinin antibodies were used to label the stomatogastric nervous system of the crab Cancer borealis. Labeled tissues were examined as whole mounts using laser scanning confocal microscopy. Although each of the anti-cholecystokinin antibodies labeled a variety of structures within the stomatogastric nervous system (including somata, fibers and neuropil), the pattern of labelin...

Studies of the stomatogastric nervous systems of lobsters and crabs have led to numerous insights into the cellular and circuit mechanisms that generate rhythmic motor patterns. The small number of easily identifiable neurons allowed the establishment of connectivity diagrams among the neurons of the stomatogastric ganglion. We now know that (a) neuromodulatory substances reconfigure circuit dy...

The gut-innervating stomatogastric nervous system of Drosophila, unlike the central and the peripheral nervous system, derives from a compact, single layered epithelial anlage. Here we report how this anlage is initially defined during embryogenesis by the expression of proneural genes of the achaete-scute complex in response to the maternal terminal pattern forming system. Within the stomatoga...
متن کاملDistribution and physiological effects of B-type allatostatins (myoinhibitory peptides, MIPs) in the stomatogastric nervous system of the crab Cancer borealis.
The crustacean stomatogastric ganglion (STG) is modulated by a large number of amines and neuropeptides that are found in descending pathways from anterior ganglia or reach the STG via the hemolymph. Among these are the allatostatin (AST) B types, also known as myoinhibitory peptides (MIPs). We used mass spectrometry to determine the sequences of nine members of the AST-B family of peptides tha...
